What's　麻雀（mahjong）？

 Mahjong is basically a game played by four players using tiles (pies). In simpler terms, it can be called a "picture matching game”.

It would be easier to understand if we say that it is similar to the well-known game of POKER at cards. In POKER, playing cards are used, but in mahjong they are tiles.

The first player to make an "a-gari" gets a point, and the winner is the player with the most points at the end of the game.

As in poker, the basic rule is to make a kyaku (hand). :)

Mahjong is a board game that originated in China in the mid-19th century and is popular in Japan and around the world, although it should be noted that the rules and tiles used vary from region to region.

There are numerous mahjong leagues in Japan, and it is popular among all ages. If you stay in Japan for a long time, you will probably see more of them.

This may sound a bit geeky, but mahjong is widely known as a content for Vtubers and distributors, and those who like them will also have more opportunities to learn about mahjong. The more you know about it, the more interesting it will be!
